A Defined STEM Learning Experience From:
Kimberly Corallo

Performance Task:
Farmers and Transportation

Here’s What We Did:
For this task students did research using the resources provided in the Defined STEM performance task. We had a conversation about the materials had dug deep into how food gets from the farm to grocery stores. We brought the conversation to a local level talking about what grows in Arizona and how food growing in different places is shipped to places all over the world. They did individual research on their favorite fruit or vegetable to learn where it’s grown. Students created a class slideshow on all their favorite produce. They also created a 3d model of a farm using a computer.

Why Defined STEM Was the Perfect Fit:
My students love the Defined STEM performance tasks because they are educational and fun. It allows them to think outside the box and explore new topics they may have never thought of. For teachers, there is no time spent on collecting relevant lesson materials, so you are able to spend more time on quality instruction. With this lesson we were able to localize and personalize the content so give students relatable and real world examples of farming.
